How to care for your oxidized silver jewelry

You may notice that your blackened (oxidized) silver jewelry has gone back to its natural white silver color with wear.

Many people enjoy the wear that their jewelry shows, while others may want to return it to the original black color.

Here’s how you can do that at home with no special tools or chemicals:

Take an egg (two eggs for larger pieces like bracelets) and break it into a microwave-safe bowl.  Microwave it for 1 ½ - 2 minutes till cooked through.

You can also hard boil the egg in water.

Smash it up and place the pieces in a sandwich sized zip lock bag.

Place the jewelry object on a piece of paper towel and place that on top of the egg bits.

(Direct contact with the egg will turn the silver a bronze/brown color.)

If the gold turns a brownish color, you can use a toothbrush with some toothpaste and carefully scrub the gold until the gold color appears again.

It is recommended that you DO NOT eat the egg afterwards!

Cook up a fresh one for yourself and admire your newly oxidized jewelry!
